White Acrylic Gesso

For Art that Pops

Canvas Primer

Breathing Color’s Acrylic Gesso Paint is a premium gesso for canvas based on the same Canvas Primer used on our world-class inkjet canvases.

This is crucial when choosing a gesso for acrylic painting as you are choosing the foundational layer of your art. Acrylic gesso primes the surface for painting by giving it a light texture that makes it ready to absorb acrylic paint. Choosing the right gesso canvas primer will give you the best surface to apply your paint, making it easier to create your next masterpiece.

Adequate flexibility to withstand loose rolling and re-stretching at room temperature.  Paint films become more brittle below 50 degrees F, and should not be bent, stretched, or flexed under such conditions.  Withstands expansion and contraction caused by changes in temperature and humidity.

Drying/Curing Time

A 5 mils wet film will dry to touch within 1 hour when temperature is above 65 degrees F and humidity is below 70%.  Lower temperature and/or higher humidity can slow the drying process considerably.

No other gesso for acrylic paint carries the same consistency and color as the Breathing Color canvas you use to print your reproductions on. By using our acrylic gesso primer, you are ensuring a consistent level of quality across your product line. When you apply our gesso, you are ensuring that your customers receive a stunning and high-quality piece of art.

If you’ve been looking for where to buy gesso, Breathing Color’s Acrylic White Gesso is the best solution out there and the answer you’ve been looking for.

If Your Canvas Has Been Pre-primed, Do You Still Need Acrylic Gesso?

If your surface has already been primed and you don't apply a second coat of gesso, the acrylic paint may bleed into the canvas's weave. Gesso canvas primer will only produce a smoother surface and facilitate acrylic paint absorption into the canvas. For the best results, we recommend applying one or two additional coats of our premium acrylic gesso primer to your canvas.

How to Prime with Acrylic Gesso

Our canvas gesso is extremely easy to use! Use a broad, flat brush to apply the gesso, and if you are covering a larger surface, use a bigger brush. Always make sure to completely cover the canvas when applying the gesso!
