I'm curious as to why one must spend big bucks on RIPs when Qimage Ultimate does a lot of what RIPs can do, can do some things even better, and the price is under $100. Why not try Qimage Ultimate first?

Well, ahem, being a color management consultant/idiot I get my hands on a lot of different RIP products and have used several of them extensively.

The absolute premium RIP for both proofing AND fine art applications is GMG Colorproof....but it also commands a premium price.

For most artists and photographers, I generally default to the ColorBurst X-Proof RIP (Mac or Windows).....but there's another RIP product that ColorBurst has announced that I believe will be an even better option for photographers/artists. It's called ColorBurst Overdrive 2. I won't go into all the reasons for this but I think it will overall be a better option for most folks.....still some of the good features of a RIP (layout features, better color management, etc.) without the learning curve required by most RIPs.
