Arthur Krumsee,

Color lift-off when using Timeless canvas

Just varnished my first canvas prints. They were printed on Epson Premium Canvas Satin. They'd dried for about 36 hours prior to this. The prints were intentionally quite dark. I noticed some darkening of the roller as I gently rolled the prints. Is this normal? Would that happen with a different canvas?

Arthur,

I'm surprised that the ink uptake on the roller was not more severe seeing as you're printing on a satin canvas.

Generally speaking, most canvas that does not have a matte surface cannot be roll coated. If Epson's is anything like our Crystalline Satin canvas, you can spray coat it just fine.

That being said, the vast majority of people that use satin or glossy canvas do so because it's designed to not require a top coat of varnish before stretching.

Hope this helps!
