HP Designjet Z3100

The HP Designjet Z3100 came out a little later than HP had hoped, later than Canon's release of the Canon ipf9000, but it has come out with force. This wide format inkjet printer is available in both 24" and 44 " widths. HP hopes that this HP Designjet Z3100 provides enough of a technical advantage to the marketplace to outperform and outsell Canon as well as Epson's already well established customer base.

In this article we will analyze the main differentiating features of the HP Designjet Z3100 as well as provide links for HP Designjet Z3100 icc profiles specifically made for Breathing Color inkjet canvas and fine art papers.

HP Designjet Z3100 Inks

The HP Designjet Z3100 was released as an 12-color printer.

The HP Designjet Z3100 uses HP Vivera Inks, which are pigmented and water-resistant. HP claims that prints made on the vivera inks could resist fading for as much as 200 years when properly protected and avoiding direct sunlight.

HP Designjet Z3100 and Color Management

The HP Designjet Z3100 takes a major leap forward in that if enables users to take advantage of an embedded spectrophotometer with Eye-One color technology provided by Xrite. This spectrophotometer solves a big issue for fine art and photography printmakers who demand perfectly accurate color reproduction though dont have the technical or financial wherewithal to make custom icc profiles on their own. The HP Designjet Z3100 will do it for you. The HP Designjet Z3100 spectrophotometer, all on its own, will print icc profile color targets for any inkjet paper or inkjet canvas you are using and will simultaneously read them and create the HP Designjet Z3100 icc profile.

Currently, there is no wide format inkjet printer on the market today that encompasses virtually any color management technology as does this HP Designjet Z3100. It is a huge step forward and is HP's way of differentiating itself against Canon and Epson. The real value of this spectophotometer has been widely criticized so further research on its capabilities should be performed prior to purchasing this printer solely for this printer technology advancement.
