The certificates expire on Dec. 31st 2011. However, under ”

Apparently, the prize will expire before the contest is over.

    Please advise.

Sorry about that error Sam. The certificates for the Kaanapali Beach Hotel expire on December 31, 2012.

  • Tracey

Wow what a fab contest well done Breathing Color !! I’m a canvas printer and work with photographers so could my clients enter photos they have taken and I have printed for them on Lyve or does it have to be a photo I have personally taken and printed? Hope that makes sense sorry wasn’t clear in the criteria? Thanks :-)

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

Thank you Tracey! To answer your question, anyone can enter the contest provided that they personally purchase a trial roll, full size roll, or sheets of our Lyve Canvas. For full details and the additional requirements, please refer to section 3 above titled Participation & Requirements.

    • Nick Friend

      Hi Tracey,

To further clarify Paul’s response, if you know of several photographers who would want to enter, all they need to do is purchase a trial roll and give it to you to be printed.  Then they can take the print and enter the contest.  It’s actually a great way to further promote your services and capabilities as a professional printmaker for photographers.

For example, you could send out an email announcing that this contest is happening and that photographers (who might be great photographers but don’t do their own printing) can use your print studio as a means of entering.  It’s a great opportunity to announce something creative to your customer base and also show how good your skills are as a printmaker…who knows, these photographers might be so impressed that they may just become long term customers of yours!

      • Tracey

sounds great thanks for clarifying makes perfect sense now I will promote it to my customer base :-)

  • O Medina

I print on canvas all the time but not all of my pieces are “photographs”. Some are created from scratch in Photoshop or Corel Painter. Do these types of subjects qualify for the contest?

Question 2: Many of my clients are traditional media artists that bring me their original painting for digitizing and printing of giclee prints. Do giclee prints of digitized art also qualify or must the print be a “traditional photograph”?

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

      Hello O Medina,

Thank you for the great questions! To answer both of them, the original image itself must be a photograph. Section IV above on Judging Criteria will give you the guidelines to shoot for in your print submission.

I hope this information helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

      • O Medina

Thank you for the quick reply.

      • O Medina

Thank you for the quick reply.

As regarding to the shipping and displaying the artwork. Would you recommend sending the print rolled, flat and taped on a mat-board, or mounted on a foam board ?

    Thank you!!
    -Sam

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

      Hi Sam,

Rolled in a tube is fine. We’ve also received flat shipments so that works too. But you just need to send the print itself, no need for a mounted surface.

  • http://www.joebe.com Joe Bester

Criteria #4 states “The Image size of your print must be no larger than 16”x20” (paper size can be larger).”

Does the 16″x20″ max size apply to face size only within a 22″x26″ print with a 3″ wrap printed on all sides. The submission would not be wrapped and mailed in a tube. Options are either trim to face size or put it in a galary wrap.

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

Great question Joe. If you’re referring to the mirrored edges then the print you describe is perfectly fine.  No need to gallery wrap the print, simply send it in a tube or large envelope/flat rate box.

      • http://www.joebe.com Joe Bester

        Paul,

Thanks for the clarification: Will do.

        Joe

      • http://karenhymer.com/ Karen Hymer-Thompson

Paul, to further clarify, it is ok to include the 3″ edge so the total printed surface would be 22 x 26, not 16 x 20, unwrapped, is that correct?

        • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

          Hi Karen,

That would be fine. The image area itself can be no larger than 16″x20, but additional borders/mirrored edges/white canvas around the print is totally fine.

          • karen Hymer-Thompson

            Thanks

  • scaryink

The contest is for photographers only?  Some of us are digital artists using creating original works that do not involve photographs.  As the medium matures more and more artists will use printing as their output of choice.  Too bad we are excluded from the contest. :(

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

      Hi Scaryink,

The contest is for anyone that submits a photo on canvas print. This is not limited to only photographers. The main requirements to note are that the print must be of a photograph, and your purchase of a Lyve canvas Trial Roll (or full size roll) is the entry fee.

I understand that you only create digital image files (which I find fascinating!), so be on the lookout for our future print contests! I will definitely recommend that we do a print contest that includes any and every medium! In the meantime, do you have a friend that shoots photos? If so, have them take a photo or submit one for you to print so you can enter!

  • http://www.facebook.com/StevenJDonleyPhotography Steven

If I normally would texture the print I was to send in (Using Glamour 2 of course) should it be textured for the submission as well?

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

Great question Steven. While we recommend coating the contest entry, I would be cautious of adding texture. Since this is a photo on canvas contest the photo print itself should be the focal point. I personally love texture on prints, but in this particular case I think a great photo with a smooth coat of varnish would be the best option.

      • http://www.facebook.com/StevenJDonleyPhotography Steven

Thanks Paul, that was what I was thinking, but wanted to check.  It just means I choose a different image as the only prints of some images I make on canvas I texture the water in the limited edition series.  I don’t want to make a canvas print outside that series so I’ll use the other image I was thinking of.

  • Tom Upton

I already have several rolls of Lyve…do I need to still purchase another to be eligible for the contest?

    • http://www.breathingcolor.com Paul Morales

Hi Tom. If you purchased any roll of Lyve between August 15th and today, that would be acceptable as the entry fee. Just write the order number on the back of the print (See number 9 above under Requirements). If you do not have your order number, just give us a call and we can look up your account.

      Hope this helps!
