Some good news from Epson: The Epson 9880 Stylus Pro printer has now enhanced the manufacturing process to include colorimetric calibration. This ensures consistent printing between multiple Epson Stylus Pro printers of the same model. This will eliminate the need for internal calibration devices, as this system evaluates and adjusts each printer’s performance at the manufacturing stage, which will help produce consistent color output through a printer-to-printer network.
The Stylus Pro 9880 has a built-in sensor that can read printed data for highly precise alignment of all color channels. This sensor also reads nozzle check patterns and automatically cleans the print head if any problems are found – including partially clogged nozzles.
One of the main features of this system is an industry-defining, 8-color, pigment-based ink system that includes high-density pigments for an extremely wide color gamut. This printer also features a radically new formulation of magenta pigments that produce extremely vibrant blues and purples. These colors are highlighted by high-gloss microcrystal encapsulation technology which reduces gloss differential and superior scratch resistance from improved pigment and resin chemistry. This printer avoids short-term color shifting by using color that becomes stable immediately after printing. In addition to these features, the 9880 features a black ink density up to 2.5 with an L value of 3.9* (depending upon the media used.)
