The Epson Stylus Pro 11880
Overview of the Thin Film Piezo

One of the most innovative features of the Epson Stylus Pro 11880 is its “Thin Film Piezo” (TFP) technology. Piezo is a term that means “to squeeze or press”, and the TFP does just that. In fact, Epson has it down to an art form. This technology greatly increases print times by producing variable-sized fluid droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters. This technology is very impressive, as it does not compromise print quality - and it also optimizes the quality of the image.

In addition to the TFP technology, Epson uses a “Low Vibration Meniscus Control” technology that controls the curvature of every ink droplet within each nozzle before releasing it onto the media. This method produces results that are extremely sharp and precise in terms of accurate placement of ink droplets. Users can expect exceptional photographic print quality from Epson with this technology.

This extraordinary system is delivered by pressurized ink cartridge technology that promises excellent ink delivery at all printer speeds, while dramatically reducing the size of the ink cartridges. The system is controlled by nine separate 700ml cartridges that can be conveniently replaced in order to optimize print productivity.

There are also nine individual amber LED lights that provide live feedback about printer activity and ink. This automatic print head alignment is standard among Epson Stylus Pro printers. This built-in sensor technology is unprecedented and provides accuracy that is unrivaled in the industry.

With the Stylus Pro 11880, Epson has also introduced an innovative Auto Ink Droplet Detection System. This improved Auto Nozzle Check system is an innovative feature that automatically checks and verifies nozzle operability without the need for a pattern printout. The secret lies within the ink, which is electrically charged and emitted from all the nozzles.

As a safeguard from malfunction, the built-in sensors are programmed to detect whether or not ink is present. If it is not, the nozzle is judged to be malfunctioning. In the event of a malfunctioning nozzle, the printer automatically initiates a self-clean to clear the nozzle.
