Printmakers have the option of using either matte black or photo black ink when printing with the Epson 7800 printer. sThe matte black ink should be used when printing onto matte substrates, such as a matte inkjet canvas or matte fine art paper. This will allow the printmaker to achieve a much deeper and darker black, or a greater black density (dmax), and generally a wider color gamut across the board. If a printmaker were to use photo black inks and print on matte substrates, the giclee prints will tend to look faded in comparison. It is for this reason that such a method such be avoided. Furthermore, the same holds true when printing with photo black ink on your Epson 7800. If you are using photo black ink, you should be sure to use a glossy inkjet canvas. Once again, the combination will allow you to produce optimal color gamut and black density. There is much to know and learn about the Epson 7800 printer, which must be summed up with various articles and opinions from various users with substantial experience and established expertise in printmaking.
